The program unfolds in two distinct sections. We begin with J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 202, the Wedding Cantata, which presents a scene of "gloomy shadows, frost, and winds" to this blissful wish of “a thousand happy days”.

Followed by three French melodies by Massenet, ending with the song"L'improvisateur," a celebration of intoxicating passion through joyful improvisation.

Back in the days in China, ladies used fresh flowers to decorate their hair. The original music of this dance piece is composed by DaZhou Guan. It was originally orchestrated for a Chinese folk instruments orchestration setting. For this project, the music will be presented with piano-redacted accompaniment.

《黄鹂》”Yellow Bird” composed by Zhou Tian (Born. 1981). Hong-Yu Studio choreographed the dance piece in the contemporary dance style (or modern dance style) with Chinese classical dance elements to fully cope with the music. The choreograph team reflects that “the inspirations for the choreography largely lie in the habits of the yellow birds themselves.
Mission
As an interdisciplinary collaboration, this project explores issues of history and the inherited interpretation of gender and cultural norms. By combining Chinese Classical Music and Dance WITH Western Classical Music and Contemporary Dance practice, Collaborators from disparate perspectives create diverse storytelling to reflect different expressions of nature. This performance project creates a space for the audiences to experience the possibility of empowerment and self-awareness, through examining and challenging boundaries and balances.
